Green School Colorado Gardening Courses from CSU Extension

Full Program Overview

Colorado gardening and landscaping takes grit and knowledge of our unique soils, climates, and plants. CSU Extension has been helping people grow in our great state for 150 years. Join us to learn the basics from our Colorado horticulture experts through our flexible, online ‘Green School’ program.

Build Colorado-specific gardening knowledge

This flexible program includes both self-paced, online courses and live, facilitated online instruction.


Full program registration opens August 2026

What you get in the full program:

  • Access to 14 self-paced online lessons*
  • Live weekly class reviews (online) with CSU subject matter experts
  • Colorado Gardener Certificate**

*Once enrolled, you will have access to the full course until March 2028. Refunds not available.
**To obtain your certification, you must complete 8 online courses and pass the comprehensive final exam (open-book, research encouraged) with a 70% or better.

Scholarship information

Please complete the CSU Green School Scholarship Application no later than August 28, 2026, to apply for a 50% scholarship (reducing the course cost to $275). We will contact you at the provided email by September 4 with scholarship results.

The learning experience

The full Green School Program includes a mix of online learning (up to date course content includes readings, videos, activities, and quizzes) and live review sessions where you have access to CSU subject matter experts who provide instruction and answer your gardening questions.

Science-based course material is specific to Colorado’s unique (and challenging) climate, soil, environment, insects, wildlife, and plants.
