You can take credit and noncredit courses without applying for admission to the University. Simply browse courses and register online. In some cases, credit courses have prerequisite restrictions that are noted in course descriptions.
No, students do not need to be admitted to take coursework. You simply follow these steps on how to register.

Transferability of coursework is dependent on your home institution and their Registrar’s Office. For information on how CSU coursework will transfer, please discuss this with your home institution. Visit this page for information on accreditation.
If you are not attending another institution outside of CSU, we require that you are admitted to a degree or certificate to be eligible for financial aid. Financial aid eligibility is determined by the completion of the FAFSA and your home institution. For more information or questions, please contact the Office of Financial Aid.

While you should have the prerequisite requirements required for your course(s), students are not required to provide transcripts in order to register. During registration you will be prompted to acknowledge that you have the background necessary to be successful in your course(s). This acknowledgement will serve as proof of prerequisites.
