Organizational Performance and Change (OPC)
Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Education and Human Resource Studies
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cost for out-of-state students?
Students pay the same rate whether they live in Colorado or commute from another state. The program tuition will not increase for the duration of the cohort.
Do I have to write a thesis?
Students do not write a thesis but rather complete a comprehensive case study project known as the Capstone Project. In this final project, students address a current performance problem or organizational break-down using a structured, comprehensive, ten-step consultative process. With this and the other coursework, students complete the program as a Change Agent with documented experience solving a real-life business and performance issues.
Do I need to take the GRE?
No, the OPC master’s degree program is a professional degree and students do not have to take the GRE.
If I have to drop out a semester, is that a problem?
The OPC program is designed for working professionals and the faculty understand that outside commitments do arise on occasion. However, if you foresee that you will need to take lengthy absences, the OPC program is probably not a good fit for you. The cohort model – where everyone starts and ends the program together – is not designed for students who need a lot of flexibility due to the compressed, structured schedule.
How much do books cost?
Books cost on average $100-200 per semester, and several classes use the same books.
What are typical assignments, and how much time is spent preparing outside of class?
Much of the coursework is centered on completing projects, case studies, papers, reading assignments and presentations. Students work on individual and group assignments, and it is recommended that they spend 8-10 hours a week outside of class.
Are scholarships and financial aid available?
Yes. Through our partnership with the Society of Human Resource Management, students have been awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships. Financial aid is also available, and students should take advantage of any available employer-sponsored tuition benefits as well.
What additional professional opportunities are available to students?
If you opt to join the Denver Center Student Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management, you will have access to leadership opportunities, networking, and professional development. In addition, the membership fee of $35 includes free access to the SHRM website and a subscription to the HR Magazine.
