Finance Certificate
Certificate Overview
The Finance Certificate is designed for individuals who have a professional or personal interest in gaining a broader knowledge in advanced corporate finance, international finance, and financial institutions and credit markets. With seminar-style courses that are offered pass or fail, this certificate is an ideal complement to MBA degree programs or for students seeking to establish finance as an area of specialty.
The certificate courses, taught by School of Business Department of Finance professors, are designed to provide industry-specific knowledge relevant to conducting business in various financial environments. This certificate program is not designed as a primer or introductory course grouping.
Curriculum
Coursework builds on the MBA finance material, as well as industry skill sets and knowledge. Classes will be symposium- or seminar-style with an emphasis on discussions and engagement with other students on those financial issues facing businesses today.
- BUS 690F – Advanced Corporate Finance (2 cr.)
- BUS 690F – Advanced Investments – Futures and Options (1 cr.)
- BUS 690F – Corporate Risk Management (1 cr.)
Admission to the University is not required to earn the Certificate of Completion in Finance. You can register for any course in the certificate program as long as you meet the course prerequisites. Prior CSU coursework can be applied toward this certificate, though transfer courses are not accepted.
Requirements
This certificate requires successful completion of BUS 640 - Financial Principles and Practice and BUS 641 - Financial Markets and Investments from the MBA curriculum or an equivalent graduate course or industry-specific experience. Finance, accounting, and banking professionals or others with industry-specific experience are asked to contact Matt Leland (information listed to the right) to discuss your experience level in these areas to determine eligibility to enroll in classes.
