Drop and Refund Policy for Credit Courses

The following information pertains to policies and procedures of Colorado State University and the Division of Continuing Education that affect your enrollment in OnlinePlus credit courses only. Drop and University Withdrawal deadlines for OnlinePlus credit courses differ from University deadlines.

It is your responsibility to be familiar with these policies. Unless otherwise specified, this policy applies to all credit programs and courses offered through the Division of Continuing Education. OnlinePlus reserves the right to change policies and procedures without notification.

If you are a noncredit student, see the drop and refund policy specific to noncredit courses and programs.

Any changes made to your class schedule may impact your financial obligation to the University and your eligibility for financial aid. It is your responsibility to verify that the drop or withdrawal has been processed properly.

Two weeks prior to the first week of class is the free drop period in which you may drop courses without penalty and receive a full refund of tuition and course fees. Open entry courses begin the day you register; the free drop period ends 30 calendar days from the date of registration. Courses dropped during the free drop period will not be reflected on your transcript.

Tuition refunds for drops received after the free drop period are dependent upon the duration of the course and the effective drop date. The effective drop date is the day OnlinePlus receives your request. Drops occurring in RAMweb are effective immediately.

Nonattendance does not constitute a drop.

Use the tables below to determine the drop deadlines for your course(s). Also see the drop deadlines for specific dates for drops and refunds. Note: A week starts on Monday and ends on Sunday.

  100% tuition only refund 50% tuition only refund and “W” grade recorded on transcript
3 weeks or less Drop before the first week of class. Drop before end of week one.
4-6 weeks Drop before end of week one. Drop before end of week two.
7-13 weeks Drop before end of week two. Drop before end of week four.
14 weeks or more Drop before end of week two. Drop before end of week eight.
  100% refund No refund and “W” grade recorded on transcript
Open entry Drop within 30 calendar days from date of registration. Drop within 65 calendar days from date of registration.

Refunds of credit balances are processed automatically within 48 hours unless either of the following conditions apply:

  • You are enrolled for less than 6 credits (or have dropped all of your courses)
  • Your student account has a credit balance less than $50

If either of the above conditions are true, you must request a refund by contacting Student Financial Services at (970) 491-6321.

Credit card refunds require 10 business days; checks are mailed to the address on file.

How to Drop a Course

Drops must be requested through one of the methods below; no drops can be completed via telephone.

Online: RAMweb and click on "Registration" to get started. If you are dropping your last course, you cannot use RAMweb. You must email or fax your drop request.
Email: Send an email to onlineplus_registration@colostate.edu and include your name, CSUID, and the course(s).

You will receive confirmation of your course changes. It is your responsibility to retain registration documents as proof of course changes.

University Withdrawal / Dropping Your Last Course

A University Withdrawal constitutes a drop from all of your courses and departure from the University, which is different from dropping one or more courses. If you choose to drop your last course and withdraw from the University you will also be dropped from your degree program and must be readmitted before any future credits or grades will apply to your degree. It is important that you speak with your departmental advisor about the impact to your degree, academic requirements, and readmittance policies (undergraduate policy) | graduate policy).

University Withdrawals are not available during the summer semester.

If you are a graduate student, you may opt for Continuous Registration and not be dropped from your degree program for the semester.

Withdrawing from the University does not eliminate your financial obligations to the University. You are responsible for any charges owed to the University at the time you withdraw as determined by the drop and refund policy. Withdrawing from the University will impact your financial aid.

University fees will be refunded if the University Withdrawal occurs prior to the first week of class.

Course Cancellations

OnlinePlus reserves the right to cancel any course with insufficient enrollment or for reasons beyond our control. A canceled course results in a full refund of tuition and course fees. University fees will be refunded in full if the canceled course is your only course.

Appeals

The appeals process is designed to provide students who experience unavoidable or extenuating circumstances the opportunity to request a waive of a policy that, if enforced, would result in unsatisfactory financial consequences. See more about appeals.
