This course offers an introduction to the practice of mindfulness for personal wellbeing. Explore how mindfulness practices can help us gain awareness of “habits of mind” that lead us toward reactivity, resistance, struggle and suffering. Learn that by staying present in the moment and in our bodies, mindfulness can help us move beyond conditioned reaction and open space for insight and growth. Explore mental patterns that contribute to negativity and stress and experiment with practices aimed at creating greater present moment awareness

Sue Schneider

Sue Schneider, Ph.D. is a Medical Anthropologist, Certified Integrative Health Coach, and Mindfulness Instructor. She works in the Larimer County office of CSU Extension as a Family and Consumer Science and Community Development Agent where she provides leadership and programming in the areas of community health, family well-being, and healthy aging.

Sue has spent the last 15 years in academic and community settings teaching anthropology and health behavior courses, conducting qualitative research, and evaluating health promotion programs in the U.S. and abroad. She has conducted extensive studies on global healing traditions, published a book on the politics of community healthcare in Mexico, and evaluated the applications of integrative health coaching within U.S. medical centers. In addition to teaching mindfulness and meditation classes, she supports individuals in optimizing their well-being through her health and mindfulness coaching practice.

Sue is passionate about introducing mindfulness to individuals of all ages and backgrounds. A daily mindfulness and meditation practice has been part of her life since 2003 when she stumbled upon a week-long meditation program while residing in Mexico. She spent the next decade studying and practicing Insight (Vipassana) Meditation with a number of teachers and groups in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina. After completing the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction program at Duke University in 2012, she began incorporating mindfulness into her community work and university teaching. In 2015, she developed a 15-week online class for Maryland University of Integrative Health titled, Mindfulness, Meditation and Health. She continues to expand her mindfulness offerings throughout Colorado through her work as an Extension educator.
