CIVE 551 - The Material Point Method

Basic elements of the material point method, covering theory, and developing computational code to solve problems in solids, fluids, and soil mechanics.

Prerequisite

CIVE 261 (Engineering Mechanics-Dynamics); MATH 340 (Introduction to Ordinary Differential Equations Mathematics); Credit not allowed for both CIVE 551 and CIVE 580B7.

Dr. Paul Heyliger is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University. He is the primary instructor for both the on-campus and online sections of Mechanics of Solids.
Professor Heyliger has been teaching this course for over 30 years and is the recipient of numerous teaching awards. Mechanics of Solids was his favorite course as an undergraduate student, his favorite course as a teaching assistant when he was in graduate school, and his favorite undergraduate course to teach at CSU. He has a PhD in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Tech and has held research positions at NASA, the University of California-Santa Barbara, and the University of Stuttgart.
