Advanced Science Instruction Certificate
Certificate Overview
Advance your knowledge of methodologies and practices for teaching secondary school science courses with this certificate in Advanced Science Instruction. This three-course series enhances your research skills and teaches you advanced instructional techniques, classroom management, and lab exercises. Low-cost lab experiments and exercises provide you with practical teaching methods. Interactions with other science teachers in the class will expose you to a variety of instructional resources and practices as well as classroom management techniques.
This certificate is a companion to the Master of Natural Sciences Education degree. The credits completed as part of this certificate can be applied toward the degree after formal admission per University transfer policies. However, successful completion of the courses or certificate does not guarantee admission to the degree program.
Curriculum
Courses demonstrate new methodologies and practices for advanced science instruction in biology, chemistry, and physics. Enrollment in this certificate program is open to practicing and licensed teachers only. Instructor permission may be needed for individual course registration.

- NSCI 619 – Physics for Science Educators (3 cr.) (Spring 2014)
- NSCI 620 – Chemistry for Science Educators (3 cr.) (Fall 2013)
- NSCI 630 – Spectroscopy for Science Educators (3 cr.) (Fall 2012)
- NSCI 650 – Pollution and Environmental Biology for Educators (3 cr.) (Fall 2012)
- NSCI 660 – Evolutionary Biology for Educators (3 cr.) (Summer)
Admission to the University is not required to earn the Certificate of Completion in Advanced Science Instruction. You can register for any course in the certificate program as long as you meet the course prerequisites. Prior CSU coursework can be applied toward this certificate, though transfer courses are not accepted.
