This course will focus on the historical, philosophical, ideological, and practical issues relevant to world-wide criminal justice systems with a special emphasis on criminal justice in the Czech Republic. The course will address the process of transitioning a criminal justice system from a totalitarian state to an independent entity operating under democratic "rule of law" principles and regulations required by the European Union.
