ART 382B - Travel Abroad: Study Abroad - Art in Japan: Studio Art

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of ART 382A: Art History in Japan, students will be able to:
Discuss major themes, materials, and forms of art and architecture from different eras in Japanese history, with special attention to the modern and contemporary periods.
Explain how art and architecture in Japan relate to Japanese culture across time.
Discuss unique characteristics and global interconnections of Japanese art and architecture by differentiating Japanese cultural production from that of other global regions and analyzing influences on Japanese form and content stemming from other cultures, especially after World War II.
Formulate a creative project through on-site learning that synthesizes the student’s knowledge of Japanese art and architecture to evaluate their findings within cultural context.

Prerequisite

ART 382A (Study Abroad - Art in Japan: Art History).
