How to Apply (Principal Licensure Only)

Before applying to the principal licensure program, you must contact Wendy Fothergill well in advance of the application deadline to understand all requirements.

1 Review Minimum Admission Requirements

  • A master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Demonstrated leadership potential
  • Valid teaching license
  • At least three years of teaching experience
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA. Applicants whose GPA is lower than 3.00 must demonstrate their potential for academic success by providing additional evidence such as: additional recommendation letters showing strong potential for graduate studies; completion of six credits of graduate level coursework; or GRE scores.
  • GRE scores are not required

Meeting the minimum requirements does not ensure admission to the principal licensure program. Admission is based on a number of factors, including prior academic and professional experience, your statement of purpose, and fit with the program.

Before your application is considered, all application materials must be received by the Center for Educator Preparation(CEP).

2 Submit Application Materials

Gather the following materials and submit to the Center for Educator Preparation in one complete packet:

  • University non-degree application
    Download application form
  • Status form
    Download status form (TE 3 form)
  • $50 application fee
    Check should be written to Colorado State University and included with your non-degree application.
  • Three letters of recommendation
    In sealed envelopes with signatures of the recommender across the seal.
  • Unofficial transcripts
    Include one copy of each unofficial transcript from all collegiate work completed at every institution attended, whether or not you received a degree from those institutions. Transcripts from Colorado State University are not required.
  • Teaching certificate
    Include one copy of valid teaching certificate.
  • Statement of support from school administrator - separate from a recommendation letter
    Include a short letter of support from your school's administrator documenting that she/he agrees to provide internship experience for you.
  • Statement of purpose
    • Reasons for seeking Principal Licensure
    • What you bring to our community of learners
    • A summary of your long-term professional, educational, or personal goals and how the program will meet your goals
    • Your professional commitment to your field of study
