OSHR 3170 - Expedition Images from the Arctic and Antarctica (Perk Series Lecture)

This course is offered through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Colorado State University. You must be a member of Osher to enroll in this course.

The presentation, with photo images, will demonstrate the basic nature of the different wildlife that exist in each of the two coldest areas of Earth. Some of the historic human lifestyle and occupation issues of the areas will be mentioned as well. The nature of and growth of ecotourism over the last 50 years will be discussed, and the issues of such future travel will be considered.

Mention will be made of the role of people like Shackleton, the explorer, plus entities like National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions in exploring, educating, and studying these areas near the North and South Poles.
