"You have to deeply deny the evidence to conclude that humans alone are conscious, feeling beings,"says author Carl Safina, in Beyond Words: What Animals Think and Feel. Host of the PBS series "Saving the Ocean," honored with MacArthur, Pew and Guggenheim Fellowships, and recipient of literary awards, Safina weaves field observations with recent brain research in this illuminating and intimate look at elephant families of Kenya and a wolf pack in Yellowstone in Parts 1 and 2.

We’ll discuss these parts of the book and save Parts 3 and 4 for discussion in the fall.

Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
