The lecture will discuss how drums and percussion found in Middle Eastern and European militaries worked their way into the opera and the symphony orchestra. Several significant composers will be sighted as well as specific musical examples demonstrating how percussion was used to recreate war, battles and brutality as well as related symbolism. Live musical demonstrations of the instruments will be given.
Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
