Many observers of the world scene believe the major struggles of the 21st Century will involve China and the U.S. As the U.S., in President Obama’s words, "pivots toward Asia", and Beijing sees that move as an effort to "contain" China, the possibilities of conflict expand. This presentation will focus on the current problems between Washington and Beijing - from China’s claim to islands in the South China Sea to the economic impact on both nations of the U.S.-sponsored Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement, and on the possible implications of those problems.
