OSHR 1703 - Philosophy of Art: An Introduction to Aesthetics

  • Noncredit
  • Off-Campus

This course is offered through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Colorado State University. You must be a member of Osher to enroll in this course.

Have you ever enjoyed looking at a painting and not known quite what questions to ask about it or what thoughts or feelings to entertain in response to it?

This course will take your ability to respond thoughtfully and enjoy artworks to a new level. We will look at artworks through the eyes of some of history’s great classical and modern thinkers, including Plato, Aristotle, Immanuel Kant, Arthur Schopenhauer, Clive Bell, and Susanne Langer. Representative samples of writings from these figures will be distributed in class.

Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
