This course is offered through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Colorado State University. You must be a member of Osher to enroll in this course.

"The stage is a magic circle where only the most real things happen..A truer and more real place does not exist in the universe". This course looks at theatrical scenery as a functioning element that contributes as much to the whole of the theatre event as does any other element.

You may respond to the scenery of a play, but are you uncertain how to discuss or evaluate it? This course uses abundant illustrations and discussions of the theory of theatre and drama, and its performance. At least one field trip to a local theatre will help you more insightfully enjoy the techniques of scenery design. In addition, the artistic process of the scenic designer will be discussed and illustrated. You will be encouraged to explore additional "magic circles" in Front Range-based plays to observe the techniques described in our course.

Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
