OSHR 1420 - Appreciating Opera

Do you wish you could attend an opera and understand it, enjoy it, and, perhaps, even discuss it? This course provides an introduction to the origins and development of opera, focusing on classic operas and recordings from the past and the present. You will learn about what to listen for, singing lines, phrasing, and interpretive qualities, as well as enjoy the glories of the human voice.

Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.

Sandy Kern

Sandy Kern, Ph.D., has been an opera buff since the age of 17 when he had the opportunity to sell libretti (the stories and texts of the operas) at the old Metropolitan Opera House. As part of that experience, he heard over 100 opera performances. Sandy is now retired from the Physics Department at Colorado State University.
