This course is offered through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Colorado State University. You must be a member of Osher to enroll in this course.
One of Emily Dickinson’s poems urges telling all the truth but telling it "slant." Poet Robert Lowell says, "Yes, why not say what happened?" Are their words at odds or do they simply point to two important aspects of strong writing? Using ideas from Tell It Slant, a book about nonfiction writing; we’ll explore ways to give both our poetry and prose the "dazzle" of our truths.
Participants are encouraged to write poetry, creative nonfiction (including memoir), and fiction. Each week we’ll write in class and consider effective pieces of writing. Weekly writing prompts offer ways to explore experience in both prose and poetry. But you’re welcome to pursue writing you have in mind or in motion. New writers welcome!
