In 1974, James Michener published Centennial, a novel that traces the colorful history of Colorado’s great northeastern plains.

In this course, we will take a look at the real people Michener used to create his fictional characters and how he fictionalized the area’s geography. Colorado’s history with the Native Americans, Hispanics, and German-Russians will also be discussed.

The course will culminate in a field trip to the Michener Library on the University of Northern Colorado campus.

Readings: Michener, James, Centennial, published in 1974 (available in paperback).

Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
