When was the United States Constitution written? 1787? This class will demonstrate how our Constitution was being written from the day the first settler set foot on the American continent. They just got around to writing it down in final form - almost - at Philadelphia that summer in 1787. The ideas were there from the very beginning when settlers realized that they could no longer be Europeans and survive in this new land. They did not know it yet, but they were already forming the nation that we too often believe started after the American Revolution.

We will examine how this American character developed and the difficulties that the founding fathers had when they finally tried to devise a government that reflected what they had already become.
