OSHR 1103 - Christianity and Politics

  • Noncredit
  • Off-Campus

This course is offered through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Colorado State University. You must be a member of Osher to enroll in this course.

How is faith in Christ, service to America? How is being an American, service to Christ? How do conditions of history relate to transcendence? How does the perfection of eternity guide politics?

Christianity asserts Truth beyond the limits of time and space. Politics asserts Justice within the limits of time and space. One of the most significant conversations in Western culture has been how Truth speaks appropriately to Justice.

This course will examine six contexts in which Christians have developed and expressed their understanding of this relationship: "The Bible: New Covenant;" "The Early Church, Augustine, and Aquinas;" "Theological Re-formation: Luther, Calvin and the Anabaptists;" "Politics of Science: Hobbes and Locke;" "20th Century American Theology: Social Gospel and Neo-Orthodoxy;" and "Tebow and the ‘Death of God.’"

Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
