Do you ever wonder how people can believe in ideas very different from your own or feel secure in conclusions that make no sense to you? This class teaches about critical thinking: learning specific steps about the ways others and yourself claim to know something.
We will define what beliefs, truth, information, and knowledge mean, look at the paths people use to gain knowledge, and how different fields such as history, science, art, math, and ethics acquire knowledge. This is not a class on current issues or debates about them. Also, it is not a class to tell you how or what you should think. It is a class to make you more aware of thinking - an invitation to think about thinking.
Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
