In 2006, the National Academy of Engineering charged a panel of experts with identifying the major scientific and engineering problems to be solved during the 21st century. The panel ultimately defined 14 grand challenges.
Through the course of three Osher terms, we have studied them all-four were examined in Part I and five more were examined in Part II. The remaining five challenges will be discussed during this course.
This session’s exploration of paramount challenges will include (1) access to clean water, (2) nuclear terrorism, (3) cyber security, (4) individualized learning, and (5) developing tools for scientific exploration.
Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
