Movies, like any other cultural product, bear the imprint of traditions, values, ways of life, psychologies, and can, thus, provide a unique venue for approaching cultural phenomena.
In this course we’ll examine twentieth century Russian cultural history as it is reflected in the art of cinema. We’ll look not only at the historical periods but also at the cultural trends, connection between the culture and officialdom, peculiarities of national self-perception and artistic realities in Russian films.
