OSHR 1021 - Introduction to the Humanities of Middle Eastern/Islamic Empires

  • Noncredit
  • Fort Collins

The Middle East was the cradle of civilization itself, and great Islamic empires have added to the list of cultural firsts and accomplishments.

This class is not focused on the history or politics but will introduce the humanities - the philosophy, religion, literature, art and music - of a region that too often is heard about only through its problems.

It will introduce the cultural firsts of the Sumerian, Babylonian, Assyrian, and Persian empires and note the cultural achievements of the Umayyad, Abbasid, Seljuk Turk, Moor, Mogul, and Ottoman Turk Islamic empires ending at World War II.
