Casting, forming, machining and welding processes used in manufacturing with emphasis on materials aspects. Introduction to the basic processes listed, how to best utilize the various techniques available, and how the properties of materials effect manufacturability. The course balances the fundamental aspects of materials processing with descriptive content regarding traditional forms of manufacturing.

Dr. Don Radford specializes in the study of processing of fiber reinforced composite materials. His research focus areas include prediction of mechanisms of distortion during the manufacture of composite materials, processing, preparation and testing of high temperature structural composites, composite structures development, and prediction and measurement of the damping characteristics of advanced composites. Professor Radford has experience, over a wide range of application areas, in developing composite structures and manufacturing processes that enable rapid production of small volume products, including composite components for engine applications.
