Leaders tend to believe someone will tell them if they make a poor first impression, talk more than they listen, or should pass on the public speaking opportunities. Leaders assume they have colleagues and direct reports who are too passive or too aggressive, but they are just right and always land on assertive behavior. And leaders live in meetings, so they think they must be good at running them. The farther up you go, the fewer people tell you the truth. This course will heighten your awareness and get you practicing behaviors that keep your distractions low and your credibility high.
Students will learn to:
· Demonstrate good first impressions in person, on the phone, and with email.
· Identify the differences between passive, passive aggressive, aggressive and assertive behavior in the workplace
· Practice influential listening and meeting success
· Deliver a high quality presentation with competencies in content development and professional presence

Textbooks and Materials
Students need to dedicate a spiral notebook or journal to the “Projecting Your Leadership Edge” course. This notebook or journal should always be available during participation in the course. It will be used to fulfill activity requirements including observations and notes.
Stephanie Salasek is a native of Iowa who graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech for Secondary Education and a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from Iowa State University. She has been a practitioner and trainer in secondary education, private industry, health care, and higher education. She was selected for the “Women Impacting ISU” calendar sponsored by the Carrie Chapman Catt Center while she was serving as the Senior Associate Director of Admissions. Stephanie consults full-time now with her company, Look Up Communications, and serves both profit and non -profit businesses and organizations.
