1Review Admission Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited postsecondary institution or a CSU-recognized international institution is required.
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA
    Applicants whose GPA is below 3.00 are still encouraged to apply. You may be required to demonstrate your potential for academic success by providing additional evidence. Please contact an AET faculty member to discuss your options.
  • GRE scores are not required.

2 Prepare Application Materials

Prepare the materials below and upload when you apply online.

Statement of purpose
The Statement of Purpose serves as an academic writing sample for the faculty to determine your readiness for graduate level writing, learn more about you, and ascertain how your goals align with this certificate. Please address all of the following in your statement:

  • Reasons for seeking the Graduate Certificate in Adult Basic Education.
  • A summary of your long-term professional, educational, or personal goals and how the certificate will meet your goals.
  • Your expectations for the certificate program.

Resume or vita

  • Include job duties and dates of all professional employment.

3 Complete Online Application

Complete the online graduate application and pay the nonrefundable application processing fee (payable online). As soon as you have completed the required information, please submit your application. You do not need to wait for recommendations or transcripts to move your application forward.

  • Choose "Adult Basic Education (Certificate) – Distance" when choosing the Program of Study. (Note: You must first select "Certificate" at the top.)

4 Request Transcripts

Request one official transcript from the institution where you earned your bachelor’s degree. Transcripts from Colorado State University are not required. Official transcripts can either be mailed in or sent as e-transcripts.

Applications are reviewed monthly on a rolling basis. Faculty review of applications takes approximately 4-6 weeks.

Information for International Students

Official transcript translation

Ensure official copies include a certified translation into English (only one set of transcripts is required).

Official test scores

Colorado State University requires that proficiency in English language be demonstrated either by the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE academic tests prior to admission. Please submit one of the official scores from the list below. Tests must be taken within two years prior to admission and submitted directly from the Educational Testing Service (select institution code: 4075).

  • The minimum TOEFL score for admission without condition is 550 (paper-based), or 80 (internet-based).
  • The minimum IELTS score for admission without condition is 6.5.
  • The minimum PTE Academic score for admission without condition is 58.

Students are exempted from the English proficiency requirement if the official language of their country is English or if they have recently earned a degree at an American university.
