Degree Overview

Prepare for a career as a teacher with our Master of Education and teacher licensure program. Through your coursework, you will:

  • Obtain strong pedagogical skills
  • Develop a deeper understanding of effective theories of learning
  • Work in local school districts to gain experience in real schools with real students

This program strives to meet the growing needs of public and private schools for highly qualified teachers, including those in high-demand areas such as science, technology, engineering, and math, as well as social studies and English.

  • The program is designed for individuals who have already received an undergraduate degree in a specific content area.
  • With a cohort structure, the same group of students begins, proceeds through, and completes the program together. This fosters support and allows you to network with others who are preparing for a career as a teacher.

Requirements

On-site attendance is required to complete the program, with classes taking place in a high school setting. You must complete 41 graduate-level credits and a student teaching internship to earn the Master of Education and teacher licensure. Learn more about the degree requirements

How to Apply

Applicants are required to have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited institution, with specific degrees required for either K-12 licensure or secondary (7-12) licensure. GRE scores are not required. Find out how to apply

Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins, CO and Windsor School District in Windsor, CO. Courses are offered on site with some online components. On-campus attendance is required to complete this program.

Time frame

Program duration is a minimum of one year and depends on whether your area of teaching interest matches your undergraduate degree. Contact the academic adviser to review your transcripts and determine whether additional credits are required for your content area.

Summer courses are required to complete this program. As a cohort program, the same group of students begins, proceeds through, and completes the program together. The next cohort begins Summer 2012 with online courses beginning May 2012 and site-based courses beginning July 2012.
