Degree Overview

This unique, online graduate degree teaches you how to design and lead effective food and nutrition programs in a variety of settings, integrating principles from biomedical sciences, human behavior, and management. Coursework will develop your research skills, stimulate independent thought, and provide up-to-date knowledge in foods, nutrition, and food service and business management.

Credentialed, practicing dietetics professionals are able to:

  • Advance their level of practice
  • Retool for new career opportunities
  • Pursue doctoral study with enhanced knowledge in a specific area of dietetics practice

As an inter-institutional graduate program offered through the Great Plains Interactive Distance Education Alliance (Great Plains IDEA), you have access to and learn from expert faculty at eight universities. You apply and need to be accepted to a home institution. Then, you register for classes at your home institution but take online classes offered by any of the partner schools.

Curriculum

The degree requires completion of 36 semester credits, with 15 credits at the 500-level and 15 credits at the 600-level. The remaining 6 credits will be thesis or non-thesis research.

How to Apply

This degree follows the graduate admission and application procedures. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Hold the credential of registered dietitian (RD) or be RD-eligible. You are RD-eligible if you hold a bachelor's degree from a regionally-accredited institution and have met both the academic and supervised practice requirements to sit for the credentialing examination to become a registered dietitian.   • Minimum of a 3.0 undergraduate GPA at all institutions attended.

This program won the Great Idea Award for Faculty Collaboration from Great Plains Idea in 2011. This group of faculty continues to work together to accommodate more and more students each semester to improve their program.
