Proctoring Resources for Students

Who can be my proctor?

Students - you may use one of the following proctoring services for the exams in your course based on the service that your instructor selected. Please check your syllabus to determine which option is available for your course.

  1. ProctorU:

    ProctorU is an online proctoring service, which requires that your computer has a webcam and a microphone. If the webcam is built into a desktop computer, it is recommended that you utilize a remote webcam or have a mirror to allow the proctor to review the testing environment. As long as your computer meets the technical requirements, you can take exams on your own computer from the privacy of your own home. ProctorU offers night and weekend hours, however you must schedule a testing appointment at least 72 hours in advance. Reservations made within three days of your exam are subject to a $5 late reservation fee. You will be connected to a live person during your exam who will be there to guide you through the process and assist with any technical problems.     The cost for online proctoring through ProctorU is included in the cost of the course for students enrolled in Division of Continuing Education course sections. Students are responsible for purchasing any software that may be needed for exams taken with ProctorU, including a webcam and microphone.

    To take an exam through ProctorU, please complete the following steps:

    1. Create an account at go.proctoru.com.
    2. Log in, click on the "New Exam" link and select the exam, date, and time you desire. Available dates can be seen in blue, and any available time slots will be shown in the drop down menu.
    3. Click "Add Reservation" to add the appointment. You will receive a confirmation email of your reservations at the email address that you provided to ProctorU.
    4. Take the exam as scheduled. You will need to provide photo identification to your proctor prior to taking any exam.
  2. Proctortrack

    Proctortrack is an online proctoring service, which requires that your computer has a webcam and a microphone. If the webcam is built into a desktop computer, it is recommended that you utilize a remote webcam or have a mirror to allow the proctor to review the testing environment. As long as your computer meets the technical requirements, you can take exams on your own computer from the privacy of your own home. Proctortrack offers night and weekend hours, and no appointments are necessary. You can take an exam on-demand at any time during the examination window set by your instructor.     The cost for online proctoring through Proctortrack is included in the cost of the course for students enrolled in Division of Continuing Education course sections. Students are responsible for purchasing any software that may be needed for exams taken with Proctortrack, including a webcam and microphone.

    To take an exam through Proctortrack, please complete the following steps:

    1. Log on to Canvas and select your course
    2. Navigate to the exam/assessment folder and click the link to the exam
    3. Select ‘Take Exam with Proctortrack’ button and the testing process will begin
  3. Paper-based exams

    In accordance with Colorado State University proctoring guidelines, students have two options for having paper-based exams proctored:

    • Take the exam at the University Testing Center (UTC) on-campus (203 General Services Building, Fort Collins, CO 80523). Schedule an appointment in advance by calling 970-491-6498. The cost to take an exam at the UTC is included in the cost of the course for students enrolled in a Division of Continuing Education course section through CSU Online.
    • Take the exam at an accredited college or university testing center in your area. Any costs incurred due to using an outside proctor is your responsibility.
      1. If you select this option, you must submit a Proctor Identification Form found at http://www.online.colostate.edu/proctoring/at least two weeks prior to the first exam in the course.
      2. After you submit the Proctor Identification Form, your proctor will go through an approval process that can take several days. You will be contacted by the Colorado State University Testing Center once your proctor has been approved or denied.
      3. Make sure to schedule an exam appointment in advance of when you plan to take the exam with your approved proctor.

      It is your responsibility to select an eligible proctor, schedule exams with your proctor, and abide by all rules for bringing only appropriate materials into the testing area. Mobile or other electronic devices are strictly prohibited. You will need to provide photo identification to your proctor prior to taking any exam. Appropriate identification includes: driver’s license, CSU Student ID, passport, or other government issued photo identification.
