This course is designed to provide a look at the complexities surrounding people who have disabilities. Students are asked to examine their own experiences, knowledge and beliefs. In addition to exploring, questioning and challenging traditional approaches, programs, value systems and current services, students are exposed to online threaded discussions, writings, other learning opportunities, and techniques that offer opportunities to examine the life experiences of people with disabilities. Threaded discussion sessions, internet exploration, assignments, films, and readings concentrate on innovative practices in education, employment, housing, families, supporting relationships and communities.

- Self-determination and individualized funding
- Consumer and family leadership
- Inclusive education
- Augmentative and alternative communication
