EGLL 1007 - Smart Grid Bootcamp II: Operations and Control

  • Noncredit
  • Off-Campus

This course will build on the first course and continue to establish a strong technical foundation for smart grid for engineering professionals. The components of the electric power grid and the impact of smart grid technologies will be explored in more depth.

Topics covered include: operations and maintenance of the power grid, voltage control, power flow and power flow control, system faults and protection, and demand response. Participants will also be introduced to smart grid cyber security issues, their importance to the reliable operation of the grid, and an introduction to information security and the C-I-A model (Confidentially, Integrity, Availability). Other lab activities will provide an opportunity for attendees to participate first-hand in activities that examine the various impacts of smart grid controls, protection systems, and how demand response can be leveraged to increase efficiency of the power grid.

Eligible students may qualify for a scholarship, generously made available by the Colorado State Energy Sector Partnership (SESP), which will pay the full tuition amount of $3495.

In order to be eligible for the State Energy Sector Partnership (SESP) scholarship students must:

1. Demonstrate they are able to legally work in the U.S.
2. Be a Colorado resident.
3 . Be at least 18 years old.
4. Be registered with Selective Service, if a male born in 1960 or later.

Successful completion of this course, along with two others, leads to a certificate of completion in Smart Grid Engineering.

Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
