BSPM 350 - Science Illustration

This course is designed to help individuals better observe, document and communicate their research by teaching them techniques and methods of science illustration.
Learning the fundamentals of refined drawing will improve not only the drawing skills of the students, but the observational skills that prove most helpful in any good work or research. Lessons are designed to teach accuracy in drawing as well as understanding of tonal range, depth and form, basic composition, clarity of concept, and application of techniques.

Lori Discoe has a bachelor's of fine art from the Kansas City Art Institute and a master's certifice in science illustration from the University of California at Santa Cruz. She has worked closely with researchers, educators, corporations, manufacturers, and children. Clients include Smithsonian National Zoo, Mattel, Inc., Dallas Zoo, Children's Art Foundation, The Dallas Aquarium at Fair Park, Kansas City Zoological Gardens, NCBA, and Denver Museum of Natural History.
