Applied Statistics and Data Analysis Certificate
Certificate Overview
Statistics is the science of collection, organization, analysis, and explanation of data. Through this certificate, you gain an introduction to probability and statistical theory and applied regression analysis and additional training in more specialized areas of application.
This Applied Statistics and Data Analysis Certificate provides professionals and graduate students in diverse fields with a short-term training program to improve their statistical and data analysis skills.
Curriculum
The program requires a moderate math background including college algebra (plus two semesters of college-level calculus if taking STAT 315). Students must complete each class with a C or better and achieve an overall GPA of 3.0 or better to earn the certificate of completion.

Required (select one course – 2-4 credits)
- STAT 512 - Design and Data Analysis for Researchers II (4 cr.)
OR
STAT 540 - Data Analysis and Regression (3 cr.)
OR
STAA 551 - Regression Models and Applications (2 cr.)
Only one of the above courses can be applied toward completion of the certificate.
CSU Online and Distance Education

Electives (6-8 credits)
Choose any other STAT or STAA courses (except STAT 501) to complete your certificate coursework.
Admission to the University is not required to earn the Certificate of Completion in Applied Statistics and Data Analysis. You can register for any course in the certificate program as long as you meet the course prerequisites. Prior CSU coursework can be applied toward this certificate, though transfer courses are not accepted.
When are courses offered?
Courses are offered on a rotating basis or when the Department of Statistics predicts that there will be sufficient demand for them. View the schedule of upcoming distance course offerings.
