What's Ahead for OnlinePlus?

Given the macro trends of public/private partnerships, declining state support, extended recession, and new entrants that I talked about last month, what does 2012 hold for CSU OnlinePlus? My email tag line is from Einstein and says "In the midst of difficulty lies opportunity."

I see opportunity for OnlinePlus. We are one of the best in the world at providing niche graduate degrees online and at a distance. We have an updated strategic plan, a business model that works, and a highly effective leadership team and staff.

Most of our programs are small, yet we are able to efficiently manage 27 master's and three Ph.D. programs, to serve 2,320 graduate student this fall. We also have a limited niche-focused undergraduate degree offering, serving 162 degree-seeking students this fall.

Our graduate enrollment is likely to grow slightly faster than the market because our programs are highly relevant to professionals. Our undergraduate offering will grow toward our goal of 500 distance degree-seekers as we create more flexible packaging and more choices for students who qualify for CSU under Colorado State’s standard entrance requirements.

We will continue to drive our revenue back to campus to advance both distance and campus goals, and we are likely to become more aggressive funding new program development to support our growth potential three to five years out. We will also answer the question of how fast CSU wants distance and online to grow, and adjust our investments and strategy accordingly.
