Using Online Proctoring in Your Course
Online proctoring through the ProctorU service allows exam takers to complete their assessments at home while still ensuring the integrity of the exam. With the use of technology, students' screens are monitored, they are observed via webcam, and their identities are authenticated.
To use ProctorU for your online exams, two important steps are needed:
- Integrate information into your syllabus about the proctoring options available (example verbiage is provided below).
- Password protect each exam in RamCT, and submit the passwords and related exam information to ProctorU through the Assessment Directive Form (see process below).
Syllabus Verbiage
The following is sample information to include in your syllabus.
Options for exam proctoring: In accordance with Colorado State University, students have three options for having exams proctored for this course:
- Work with an approved proctor outside of Colorado State University. Your proctor must be approved and documentation must be filed at least one week prior to your examination. For information about approved proctors and procedures visit: http://www.online.colostate.edu/answers/services/proctoring.dot.
- Take the exam at an OnlinePlus facility in Colorado. Schedule your exam appointment at least three days before you need to take your exam. Contact OnlinePlus at (970) 491-5288 (Fort Collins) or (303) 573-6318 (Denver) for more information.
- Use ProctorU, an online proctoring service, requiring a webcam and microphone. Schedule an exam with ProctorU at least four days before you need to take your exam. Costs for using ProctorU are included in the course tuition; additional costs for late scheduling may apply. For more information visit: http://www.online.colostate.edu/answers/services/proctoring.dot.
Assessment Directive Form
To set up your course to use ProctorU, you need to fill out an Assessment Directive Form and submit it to ProctorU at least three weeks prior to the first assessment for your course. This form enables you to communicate exam information to ProctorU so that the exams will be presented correctly, and proctors will know what to expect during the exam process.
