About the Position

Colorado State University OnlinePlus seeks a talented and driven web developer to serve within its Information Technology unit. The web developer plays a key role in developing, implementing, improving, and maintaining web applications, working collaboratively across the organization and within the web team to continuously improve DCE's website and related operations. This position provides web development expertise, as well as excellent customer service to students, staff, and faculty, in support of the Division’s business operations and strategies as part of delivering quality education at a distance. Primary duties include website development and maintenance, application development and administration, and project planning and research. While this position is strongly technical, an understanding of web design principles and an ability to produce basic design work is important. This position reports to the Web Services Manager.

The successful candidate for this position possesses a keen ability to learn new web and programming technologies, an acute attention to detail, strong problem solving skills, and an ability to work independently. She/he is an excellent communicator who can translate the needs of non-technical users into elegant, useful web services. She/he is experienced and diligent with a passion for creating excellent user experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Manage web development projects from planning and research to requirements gathering to development to implementation
  • Develop websites and applications using a variety of client-side and server-side technologies
  • Maintain and enhance existing web and stand-alone applications
  • Administer web server and related backup processes, including maintenance and troubleshooting of performance issues
  • Create and maintain documentation for new and existing applications and processes
  • Provide technical support for various web-related services and develop appropriate long-term solutions
  • Proactively evaluate and implement new technology solutions and standards through continually enhancing technical expertise and maintaining awareness of new technology trends
  • Work collaboratively within the Information Technology team to meet organizational and unit goals and contribute to exceptional technology implementation, operations, and support

Salary

$70,000 – $75,000 annually commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer information systems, or a closely related field
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in front-end and back-end web development
  • Expert-level HTML/XHTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills
  • Broad experience across programming languages, tools, and development environments with a strong understanding of development stack and best practices including version control, testing, and release process
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming principles
  • In-depth knowledge of web best practices including web standards, usability, and accessibility and an understanding of web design principles and information architecture including experience troubleshooting development issues across browsers and platforms
  • Experience with database design, structure, and query language (SQL)
  • Excellent ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing
Preferred
  • Experience with Java, Apache, Tomcat, Velocity, and Struts MVC architecture
  • Experience with C#.NET and Visual Studio
  • Experience with JavaScript libraries (such as jQuery), Ajax, XML, and/or XSLT
  • Experience with reporting tools such as SQL Server Reporting Services or iReport
  • Experience with HTML 5, CSS3, and responsive web design techniques
  • Experience working with and integrating APIs
  • Experience with and developing for content management systems
  • Understanding of and ability to implement unit testing
